Balanced Choice’s Adam Drake hopes to break a Guinness World Record involving a large weight and push-ups

A Territory entrepreneur has a Guinness World Record in his sights and it’s sounding quite heavy. Find out the record he wants to impress the globe with.

A Darwin man has set his sights set on breaking a Guinness World Record to remind young Territorians to chase their dreams.

Balanced Choice founder Adam Drake said he planned to set the world record for the most push-ups completed in one minute with 45kg (or 100 pounds) on his back.

The 46-year-old previously set a record of 52 push-ups in 2021, but the title is now held by competitor Irfan Mehsood from Pakistan.

Mr Mehsood achieved 55 push-ups soon after Mr Drake’s own record attempt.

Mr Drake attributed his past success to his work in youth detention centres including at the Don Dale centre.

He said his work involved talking to the children and young people and training with them, including plenty of push-ups.

“I do the record myself, but I always say it’s the kids who got me the record,” he said.

“It’s not about the record, it’s about all those young people I work with seeing the older generation still chasing their dreams.”

Mr Drake said he was also preparing with trainer Ray Church at East Point.

“He puts chains around my neck and makes me do push-ups,” he said.

“I was training today and today I got the record, so I know I can do it.”

Mr Drake said he would set the record straight with 60 push-ups.

The world record attempt will take place at Snap Fitness Casuarina at 10.30am, November 16.

The date honours Mr Drake’s father’s birthday, who recently passed away.
