‘Bong-wielding man’ goes berserk on highway in Brisbane

A well-known wildlife expert was attacked with what appears to be a bong in a bizarre road rage incident.

A popular crocodile wrangler fell victim to a road rage incident on Sunday after he claims he was “spat on” by a bong-wielding man on the Pacific Motorway in Logan, Brisbane.

Steven Turnbull, also known as Croc Turnbull to his thousands of Instagram and TikTok followers, makes popular educational videos about kangaroos, snakes, crocodiles and other Australian wildlife.

On December 22, dashcam footage shows a silver hatchback slowing to a stop on a busy motorway before the shirtless driver gets out of the car and approaches Mr Turnbull’s vehicle.

Mr Turnbull claimed the incident happened after he honked the hatchback driver for swerving in front of him as he was merging onto the M1.

“I tried to take the Rochedale turn off, and he cuts across and then jumps out of the car with the bong in his hand and came down and started abusing me and smashed the side mirror off the car,” he claimed in an interview with the Courier Mail.

“He spat on me and my son, so I wound the window up, and he tried to smash the window with the bong.”

The alleged assault occurs off-camera, though viewers see the dashcam footage shake at the moment Mr Turnbull claims the window was hit.

Unintelligible conversation is heard in the background of the video before the driver runs back to his car.

As the cars resume driving, the hatchback abruptly crosses two lanes of traffic and starts speeding off on against the flow of traffic on the wrong side of the road.

In the same interview, Mr Turnbull said that he was in disbelief at that point, especially considering the driver allegedly had two kids in the back seat.

“When I saw him actually swerve, I had a good look at him and he was literally steering the car with his knees while lighting his bong and smoking pot while driving at 100km an hour with two kids and his partner in the car

“I couldn’t believe it to start with, and then he started going on, carrying on like an idiot.

“I thought, well, this guy’s got a screw loose, so that’s why we tried to back way off and tried to take the exit late and then when he got out of the car, I was like, ‘all right, here we go’,” he said.

The distressing incident led the wildlife expert to brand Logan the “s**thole of Australia.”

Mr Turnbull said as a tour guide that has travelled all around the country, he “can’t stand” Logan.

Queensland Police confirmed it is investigating the incident.

Logan Central has consistently been ranked as one of Queensland’s most disadvantaged local government areas, with last year’s Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA) from the Australian Bureau of Statistics ranking it fifth in the Sunshine State.
