A well-known crocodile wrangler with a large social media following was attacked by a man who was wielding a bong in a road rage incident on a major Queensland motorway.
Wildlife expert Steve Turnbull, who is more commonly known as Croc Turnbull, was driving along the Pacific Motorway through Logan, on Sunday, December 22, before he claimed he was attacked in a wild road rage incident.
“We were just coming back from Australia Zoo and as we merged from the Gateway Motorway onto the M1, there was a guy in a hatchback that swerved in front of us, Mr Turnbull claimed.
“I honked my horn at him, he didn’t like that and proceeded to attack my car with his bong.”
Mr Turnbull claimed the incident happened after the vehicle that swerved in front of him pulled in front of him and another vehicle at Exit 19 on the Pacific Motorway.
“I tried to take the Rochedale turn off, and he cuts across and then jumps out of the car with the bong in his hand and came down and started abusing me and smashed the side mirror off the car,” he claimed.
“He spat on me and my son, so I wound the window up, and he tried to smash the window with the bong.”
Shortly after the encounter, Mr Turnbull witnessed the vehicle drive down the wrong side of the road at speed, almost colliding with another vehicle, before cutting back across at the following intersection.
“He’s jumped in his car and when he took off, he went the wrong way down the road trying to get away, nearly had a head on collision with a car at the intersection,” he said.
“To get back on the M1 he went right hand turn from the left lane across two lanes of traffic on a red light.”
Mr Turnbull said he couldn’t believe what he saw.
“I was pretty shocked,” he said.
“When I saw him actually swerve, I had a good look at him and he was literally steering the car with his knees while lighting his bong and smoking pot while driving at 100k an hour with two kids and his partner in the car
“I couldn’t believe it to start with, and then he started going on, carrying on like an idiot.
“I thought, well, this guy’s got a screw loose, so that’s why we tried to back way off and tried to take the exit late and then when he got out of the car, I was like, ‘all right, here we go’.
“She was a pretty interesting afternoon.”
A well-known tour guide and 4WD safari guide, the incident led Mr Turnbull to declare Logan, “the s**thole of Australia”.
“This is Logan mate, it is the s**thole of Australia,” he claimed.
“I’m saying that because I’m a tour guide, I travel all over Australia.
“The only reason I’m in Logan is because my son’s here and I can’t stand the place.
“It is the s**thole of Australia.”
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said police are investigating the incident.
“Police are investigating a hit and run traffic crash in Rochedale South on December 22,” the spokeswoman said.
“A Toyota Hilux was travelling along the Pacific Motorway around 3.50pm when it exited onto Exit 19.
“A hatchback vehicle was stopped on the off ramp.
“An altercation between the two drivers occurred and the driver of the hatchback exited the vehicle and approached the Toyota Hilux, striking the vehicle with an unknown object.
“The driver of the hatchback fled the scene in the vehicle.
“The driver of the Toyota Hilux, a 49-year-old man, was not physically injured.
“Investigations are continuing.”
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact police.
