New move to reveal data on road trauma will ‘save lives’

A father and his two children who were killed in a horrific crash in Queensland have been remembered as a “shining light”.

54-year-old dad Phil Harris and his two children Ocean, 15, and Warrior, 8, were killed when a ute allegedly crashed into their sedan from behind in Jimbour East, about 90km northwest of Toowoomba.

Phil’s wife Krystal Reddacliff was seriously injured in the crash, and was rushed to hospital in Brisbane with life-threatening chest, abdominal and arm injuries.

"Their loss has left a profound impact on me"

A devastated relative, Storm Reddacliff, took to social media yesterday to share an online fundraiser for his “beloved family”.

“In memory of my beloved family, who tragically passed away in a car accident on Jimour East Road, I humbly ask for your support,” he wrote.

“Your donation will help cover funeral expenses and support my well-being during this difficult time. Any contribution, big or small, will be deeply appreciated.

“My family was a shining light in my life, and their loss has left a profound impact on me.

“Your kindness and generosity will help me navigate this challenging period and honour their memory.”

Jandowae publican Red Clark said the town was rocked by the tragedy.

“They are from a very polite family and they were good kids,” she said

“We are all pretty shocked.”

A "heartbreaking time for the Western Downs community"

The Chronicle reports police believe Phil was reversing along Dalby-Jandowae Road before the crash to help a Western Downs Regional Council Worker.

A Western Downs Regional Council spokeswoman said the worker had been offered support.

“We can confirm Council had a contractor working in the vicinity of the accident (on Monday),” she said.

“Council has engaged the services of a trauma counsellor through our Employee Assistance Program and this service has been made available to the contractor and all members of the contracting company.

“This service has also been extended to Council employees during this heartbreaking time for the Western Downs community.”

The crash is just the most recent tragedy on Queensland’s roads, as more than 130 people have died already this year.

“Can I please remind everyone that we have a significant challenge with our road toll this year,” Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said.

“People on the road need to obey the rules of the road and drive to the conditions.”
