Cold weather is upon us, and if you don’t have double glazed windows, you’ve probably noticed condensation on your windows in the mornings.
It happens because outside is cold which makes the windows cold, and when the humid air from your breath and sweat during the night comes into contact with the cold windows, that humid air turns into water droplets.
And we all know damp things lead to mould.
A mum in a popular Facebook group shared an incredible, cheap hack to banish moisture on windows.
“I saw this hack on the internet somewhere, and since my kids had chalk, I figured I’ll try it out,” she captioned a photo of a crystal clear window with a piece of white chalk sitting on the sill.
“Every morning we woke up and the bedroom windows had condensation on them, and long term it would probably have turned into mould, so I tried [placing a piece of chalk on the sill].
“For the last three mornings our windows have been dry, absolutely dry.”

Mum banishes window condensation with chalk
Instead of buying a dehumidifier or even moisture-absorbing products like Damp Rid, the mum decided to trial the free option since she already had chalk in the house.
“It’s worked on two bedrooms and one bathroom, and yes that’s just one piece of chalk on that big three-pane window."

“Go find your kid’s chalk!” she advised. “And if you only have coloured chalk, maybe put a plate or bowl under it just in case [of stains].”
Fans of the budgeting page were shocked.
“So wait. Just one piece of chalk on the ledge, that’s it?” one person said.
“Going to buy some chalk!” said another person.
“Wonder if my dog will try to eat it LOL. Who am I kidding, of course she will!” a third person said.

One person was confused about how to use the chalk.
“Where and how do you apply the chalk?” she asked.
“Just leave it on the windowsill, that’s all you gotta do,” the mum replied. “It just absorbs the moisture.”
Some women shared other hacks.
“Just googled and apparently rock salt is even better,” one mum wrote.
