Woman “fired” one day after announcing her pregnancy
British-born Amy began her day by getting ready for work, just like every other day, and left the house for the office shortly before 8am.
But as soon as she sat in the car, her phone buzzed. It was her boss.
She clarified that she sent an email to her boss the day before, explaining she was suffering from a “pregnancy-related illness” and attached a medical certificate and was “happy to get a letter from a doctor.”
That email clearly wasn’t good enough for the boss, who sent Amy a message an hour before her shift started stating she had been fired from her job for taking too much time off during her probationary period.
“Put your hand up if you were fired this morning at 7:47am via text,” she began in the clip. “By a corporate job, mind you.”
The 29yo shared a screenshot of the message she reportedly received from her unnamed boss.
“Good morning Amy,” the SMS began. “Not sure if you’re working today, we’ve been decided to cease your employment yesterday due to excessive sick leave as you’re still in your probation period.”
She was instructed to leave her laptop and work belongings at the office and would be sent a formal letter of termination following another appointment.
“You’ve texted me at 7:47 am when my shift starts at 9 am, with no prior talking to about my performance or anything like that,” she continued. “Just terminated via text.”
“Yep, that just happened,” Amy said in disbelief. “Slay.”

“I hope these people get held accountable”
According to Fair Work Australia, an employer cannot discriminate against a worker if they are pregnant, which means they can’t be demoted, treated differently or sacked from their job.
There is no law that requires someone to tell their boss they’re pregnant, the Fair Work Act states, and are eligible for unpaid parental leave for pregnancy-related illnesses.
The video quickly sparked outrage among other Aussies, claiming Amy’s unceremonious sacking was completely unfair.
“It’s a corporate job and you were let go by text message from your supervisor and not in a meeting with HR?” a confused person wrote. “So sorry you have to deal with this while you’re unwell and preparing for a baby.”
People recommended she contact Fair Work, arguing her dismissal was unfair and shouldn’t be allowed.
“Outrageous, but love that it’s in writing for your Fairwork evidence!” someone said.
“Absolutely not. Go to fair work!” said another.
Others shared their own experience in the workplace while pregnant.
“I had this happen during my pregnancy last year and I won my court case,” a woman wrote.
“I hope you do the same, these people need to be held accountable. Honestly though, it’s a process (court) and it’s draining but heck it was so worth it.”
