Bride slammed for expecting guests to drop thousands for destination wedding

“At the risk of sounding entitled… I need to vent,” the bride-to-be wrote.

Wedding guest throws cake at bride

When it comes to organising a destination wedding, you have to set realistic expectations.

One of the biggest is that you may not have everyone on your guest list present while you walk down the aisle. After all, it’s an expensive event, so not everyone can afford to make it.

It turns out that one bride didn’t get the memo, slamming her friends and family online for not forking out cash on her big day

“Is that what you think of my fiance and me?”

It’s not long until Mira* and Will* plan to tie the knot, and their wedding is going to be bigger than most.

From the moment the couple got engaged, they knew they wanted to make their wedding stand out from the rest, ultimately deciding on a destination wedding.

They’ve been planning their wedding for months, sending out the invitations well ahead of time so they can get everything sorted.

Their wedding was set to take place in Thailand, likely situated on the golden sands amid the romantic sound of crashing waves. Sounds like paradise!

But things weren’t going to plan, and Mira was becoming increasingly frustrated.

“At the risk of sounding entitled, I have to vent today,” she said in the post, which has since gone viral online

The couple initially sent out 150 invitations to their closest friends and family and knew that not everyone would be able to afford to attend their wedding.

“When we invited our friends and family to our destination wedding in Thailand, only nine people RSVP’d,” she said.

While she clarified that the cost of attending a destination wedding may have been out of some people’s budgets, she certainly wasn’t happy about it.

“OK, I get it, paying $3k to share my special day is too much for some of you,” she said. “I’d pay for yours, but whatever.”

But then, a few months before the wedding, the couple changed their minds. Did they reconsider the destination wedding? No. They reconsidered the destination

The couple were now going to get married in Hawaii, which was closer to the rest of their family. But that wasn’t good enough either.

“When we changed the wedding to be in Hawaii, so it’s within everyone’s reach, only seven of you RSVPd?

“It costs less but less of you wanna come? Is that what you think of [my fiance] and me? You can’t spare $2k to come share our happiness?”

Jeepers.

And the registry? Oh man, don’t even get her started on the registry! “Only the cheap stuff is gone, I swear I thought I had better friends,” she said.

The bride-to-be confessed that the entire process was becoming too much to handle and was “tempted to just elope and not let any of you be a part of our happiest day.”

She ended the post with an ultimatum. “This is it, guys, you have three days to respond to our e-vites, or we’re deleting you off Facebook. Good luck keeping up with our lives then.”

Oh honey, I don't think they’ll miss you, honestly.

“Honestly, how full of yourself can you be?”

The entitlement Mira was displaying wasn’t lost on the people of Reddit, who labelled the woman as “so out of touch it’s ridiculous”.

“Imagine being this narcissistic that you think all of your friends are desperate to know what's going on in their lives,” a person wrote.

“How egotistical are you that you think threatening to delete people from your Facebook friends is something anyone would give a rat's ass about?” another added. “Like, don't threaten me with a good time.”

“Honestly, how full of yourself can you be?” a third said.

Many wondered why Mira would even go through with the destination wedding if only seven people bothered to RSVP to the invitation.

“If only seven out of 150ppl RSVPd yes, then why should anyone care if they elope?” someone asked.

“I'm not driving more than two hours for a wedding,” said another.

“Have fun; I don't even need to be there for this to work. I'm not an essential character in this thing.”
