World-famous Adelaide export Teresa Palmer has dubbed a local restaurant the “best in the world” – and not only because it’s offering diners free champagne on arrival.

It’s been called the “best fine dining vegan restaurant in the entire world” by Hollywood star Teresa Palmer and draws visitors from across Australia and overseas.

Adelaide’s 28-seat Allegra Dining Room is one of the country’s very few plant-based fine restaurants; the only other believed to be Yellow, in NSW.

Although Allegra’s owners, Federico and Melissa Pisanelli, refrain from calling it “vegan”.

“It’s more about presenting what’s in nature, around us,” Mrs Pisanelli says.

“In that sense it’s really important because we have a wonderful food bowl.

It’s produce that’s in season but also things that grow in the wild – at the moment we’ve got wild Adelaide Hills mushrooms that we foraged, watercress … things that we are so lucky to have at our fingertips.

“Marrying that up with the refined experience that we’re trying to achieve, it creates a really innovative, interesting experience, which I think is different to a lot of restaurants Australia-wide.”

The Gilles St restaurant, which sits above the couple’s long-loved pizzeria, Etica, doesn’t only welcome vegan diners through its doors. “It’s also people celebrating special occasions or foodies coming to experience innovative cooking,” Mrs Pisanelli says.

Federico has recently stepped back into the kitchen, and serves up a $135 degustation menu Thursday-Sunday.

Adelaide-born Hollywood star Teresa Palmer recently posted a photo of herself at Allegra while on a date night with her husband, Mark Webber.

“Had a great night at the best fine dining vegan restaurant in the entire world,” Palmer posted to Instagram in February.

“@allegradiningroom … it was iiiincredible as always.”

As part of the delicious. Month Out, diners at Allegra – who make their booking during May – will receive a complimentary glass of champagne upon arrival.
