Deni Todorovic’s fashion week woes continue after being ‘refused entry’ to an event

A prominent queer fashionista has had their fashion week plans quashed again, after being stopped by security at an event on Wednesday night.

Queer activist Deni Todorovic’s Australian Fashion Week woes have continued, with the social media influencer being denied entry to an event by someone they “thought was a friend”.

The non-binary 34-year-old, who goes by they/them pronouns, was forced to spend Wednesday night in their Sydney hotel room after security guards said they weren’t invited to a fashion show on day three of the event.

“I was just refused entry to a fashion show by someone I thought was a friend,” Todorovic shared in an Instagram story on their backup account @hellodarlingsmedia.

“Someone who I showed empathy to.

“I won’t share her show name, location or her name, or brand’s name because I came to her show out of solidarity and with a gift in my bag.”

It’s understood Todorovic was making their way to Nadia Bartel’s offsite Henne runway at St Barnabas in Ultimo when they were turned away from the venue.

Photos capture the social media influencer sporting a frilled black skirt with a split up its front-centre to show off their Dolce and Gabbana underwear.

They were also wearing a grey “Drink Coca-Cola” hoodie while holding a large branded brown and beige handbag.

According to The Daily Telegraph’s Confidential, Todorovic never received an invitation to the event with sources telling the paper they weren’t a friend of the designer.

This was later confirmed by the security team who told the paper the fashionista was extremely polite and calm when informed they had to leave.

Todorovic later addressed the situation in an Instagram Live video, calling the situation a “blessing” as it meant they could go to the premier of The Tina Turner Musical which debuts on Thursday night.

This latest fashion week ordeal comes after Todorovic missed Monday’s festival events due to failing to board a Jetstar flight after a verbal altercation with airline staff which later saw them speaking with Australian Federal Police.

The self-proclaimed “author, broadcaster, sl*t, tranny, and wog” claimed the dispute occurred as a result of one of their bags being overweight, which they said came with a surcharge of $100.

They later added in an Instagram post those involved “blew up” at them, tried to “arrest them” and “pushed (them) up against a disabled/trans toilet and tried to cuff (them)”.

“I was there, sober and not manic. I was taunted and I missed my flight to work and lost $5000,” they said.

A spokesperson for Jetstar had earlier “categorically denied” such claims.

“Our airport staff did everything they could to support the customer. When the customer decided not to fly, we supported that request,” the spokesperson said.

It’s understood other airport staff were involved in the incident, with the AFP approaching Todorovic in terminal three – which hosts Virgin airlines – opposed to Jetstar’s terminal four.

“A person was spoken to by AFP officers at Melbourne Airport, following a request for assistance from Jetstar,” an AFP spokesperson told news.com.au.

“No further action was required by attending AFP officers at the time.”

Todorovic also reacted to the photos captured of them speaking to police outside the domestic terminal, where they were seen wearing a sky blue gown inspired by Sex in the City’s Carrie Bradshaw.

“Shame to those who took those photos of me (with) out my consent,” they said.

“But they’re iconic and I’ll frame them next to my Vogue Australia cover story feature.”

Todorovic’s comments come despite them previously acknowledging they won’t be “speaking” anymore while at the fashion event, “out of respect to the designers” and sponsors.

“This week shouldn’t be about me, a spectator. It should be about those who entertain and I am the one observing,” they said in another Instagram post.

“I will be speaking just through storytelling. Mostly that will be through my outfits.”

On Wednesday, Todorovic posted their first outfit for the event which they said was inspired by the concept “gagged”, and featured them wearing a black sheer design by Dolce & Gabbana and Kim Kardashian along with a gas mask.
