Two of Australia’s most longstanding acts in music and comedy will be performing at the same Toowoomba venue this weekend, in a move that will delight fans.

90s alt-pop act Frente! and Aussie TV star Pauly Fenech will play Bone Idol over Friday and Sunday.

Frente, fronted by singer Angie Hart and guitarist Simon Austin, have been mainstays of the Australian music scene for the best part of 35 years.

They are best known for their signature tune from 1992 Accidently Kelly Street (the unintentional misspelling of which was kept for release), which has since become a classic song from the 1990s.

They also achieved prominence for their 1994 cover of New Order’s Bizarre Love Triangle, which saw the band chart in the United States, Canada and the UK.

Bone Idol booker and Toowoomba musicians Kane Maher said their Friday night show would feature fan favourites and some new tunes.

“It was very different and people related to it, because it was not like all of that grunge,” he said.

“That paved the way for other Aussie musicians to go with alternative pop.

“It was just the concept that you didn’t need to come out with heavy guitars and moody singing – it was just feel-good pop.

“The people I’ve talked to who love them, they wore out their CDs (of Marvin The Album) because they played that album so much.”

Pauly Fenech will bring his wild, frenetic and often-improvisational live show Outback Outlaw to the venue on Sunday from 5.30pm.

He would be known to many Australians as the mind behind irreverent and raunchy comedies like Fat Pizza, Housos, Bogan Hunters and Darradong Local Council.

His shows are notable for audience members getting “thongings”, where he will whack them with flip-flops.

“His notion of a stand-up show is not like others, like he’s not got a set speech or skit,” Mr Maher said.

“It’s a bit ad lib and he feeds off the audience — there are definitely going to be thongings and I know there are people coming to get thonged.”
