What’s on: Ten things to do in Toowoomba this weekend | Feb 22-23, 2025

From a country show, to the Johnny Cash tribute act and whodunit theatre production, there really is something for everyone this weekend.

From markets to miniature steam trains, there’s plenty of events in the Toowoomba region for the whole family.

Here’s what is happening in your neighbourhood across Saturday and Sunday:

1 Family Fun Day

Grab the whole gang, Eastwood Early Education is hosting a family fun day at its Herries St centre on Sunday from 10am until 1pm.

The free event includes face painting, balloon animals, fairy floss, Disney princesses and a bubble show.

Attendees who register go into the draw to win one of four $250 Visa gift cards.

2 Miniature steam train and vintage bus rides

Come and ride Myrtle May the Miniature Steam Train at the Highfields Pioneer Village on Sunday from 10am.

The train runs on a circular track at the village with three passenger carriages and take up to 20 people at any one time.

Patrons can also have a vintage bus ride on Henry, the Model T Ford bus, built in 1924 and can take 12 passengers at once.

There is billy tea, damper, drinks and ice-creams available and a sausage sizzle at lunch time.

3 Market Fun

The next Cabarlah Market will be held on Sunday at the Cabarlah Sports Ground on the New England Highway, running from 7.30am till 12.30pm.

Doug Martin will entertain and the popular food outlets will be operating.

There is ample shaded seating and plenty of carparking, so for information phone 0490 012 999.

Toowoomba will host its regular Farmers Market at Cobb and Co Museum on Saturday and the PCYC Markets on Sunday.

4 John Cash tribute show

Experience the gold age of country music when Johnny Cash and The Outlaws take the stage at the Empire Theatre on Saturday.

The group will perform classic Johnny Cash and June Carter tunes, along with the greats from Weyland Jennings, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard.

Tickets are on sale from the Empire Theatre’s website or the box office.

5 Cooyar Show

Take a drive out to the country and enjoy the Cooyar Show on Saturday.

From fireworks to derbies, live music, livestock displays and more, there’s something for everyone.

6 Pittsworth Pacer

The DownsSteam Tourist Railway will be running its vintage rail motor from Drayton to Pittsworth on Saturday.

The service will depart the Drayton Station at 10am and arrive in Pittsworth at 12pm for lunch at the Pittsworth Hotel before a bus takes passenger to the Pioneer Museum for a guided tour.

7 Puzzle at this mysterious play

When the imperious, embittered and self-centred Mrs Bramson learns that her young maid Dora is pregnant, she summons the child’s presumed father to her bungalow.

The young man, Dan, is charming but mysterious. Could he be responsible for the recent murder and beheading of a local woman, and could Mrs Bramson be his next victim?

This is the synopsis of Night Must Fall, a classic thriller by Emlyn Williams that is playing at the Toowoomba Repertory Theatre on Saturday at 7.10pm.

8 Pub Sing-a-long

Kickin’ Karaoke Toowoomba will take over the National Hotel on Saturday from 7.30pm.

Bring your mates, enjoy a few cold ones and build up the courage to sing your favourite song in front of a crowd of strangers.

9 Catch a flick

Drop in to the Grand Central Cinemas this weekend and enjoy a good movie. This weekend’s screenings include Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, Captain America: Brave New World, horror films The Monkey and Heart Eyes, epic romance We Live in Time. As for the kids, Mufasa: The Lion King and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 are still running.

10 Go for a walk

The Darling Downs is blessed with wonderful weather and pristine parks. Take a walk through your suburb and enjoy the slightly cooler weather.
