Acclaimed percussionist Jamie Nuss will return to his roots in the coming weeks, with a special performance with the band that started it all.
The Toowoomba Municipal Band will host a special concert dedicated to the former Harristown High student, who has recently flown back to Australia while on leave from the British Army Band.
Mr Nuss grew up in the Garden City and gained a music degree at the University of Southern Queensland, before securing a spot in the number one ranked brass band in the world, The Cory Band, based in Wales.
In recent years, Mr Nuss joined the British Army Band, where his first commanding officer was the now King Charles III.
Mr Nuss, with the British Army Band, played for Queen Elizabeth’s last Garden Party, and led the street liners to and from the Horse Guards building to form the route for the late Queen’s funeral procession.
Now in his 30s, Mr Nuss, who holds the position Lance Corporal in the British Army, will join the Toowoomba Municipal Band on Friday, December 30 at 7.30pm for a special concert at the Drayton Memorial Hall.
“For us as a competing brass band (to have Jamie perform with us) … it raises our standards,” Toowoomba Municipal Band’s Leanne Fuller said.
“He’s the pinnacle. No one in the brass band world has done as well as Jamie.”
Tickets can be secured through the Toowoomba Municipal Band’s website.
