Holi Colourfest: the vibrant cultural celebration open to all

Holi Colourfest returns to Toowoomba for a second year with incredible live music, food, and culture. Put on some white clothes and get ready for an explosion of colour.

Holi the Festival of colours is set to brighten up Toowoomba as hundreds gather to celebrate the vibrant Hindu holiday on Saturday at UniSQ.

The festival includes live music, delicious traditional food stalls, and lots of colour.

Yaju Mahida, a member of Indian Communities Toowoomba, wanted everyone to experience the magic of Holi, and with a diverse student population he said this is an event that brings people of all ages and backgrounds together.

“At the end of the day Holi is about bringing people together and this celebration will bridge together people from various cultures,” he said.

The festival is widely celebrated across India and Nepal and it is a time of reconciliation, forgiveness, and community bonding.

Student Accomodation Director Peter Munster said UniSQ has students from more than 25 different countries and it is important to celebrate this diversity.

“It’s great to be able to showcase cultural traditions and we look forward to seeing everyone celebrating Holi together.”
