Former Slipknot frontman Anders Colsefni to honour Toowoomba man with muscular dystrophy Mitchell Fletcher

A Toowoomba metalhead who died just months ago will be honoured at an upcoming show featuring the former vocalist of one of his favourite bands.

How To Scream Like A Rocker

Mitch Fletcher was a metalhead to his core — bands would witness the Toowoomba man doing burnouts in his wheelchair in the heart of the moshpit.

So it’s only fitting the ex-vocalist of one of his favourite bands would dedicate the Toowoomba leg of his tour to his memory.

Mr Fletcher, who passed away in June at just 32 after complications with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, will be remembered at his favourite venue the Irish Club Hotel on October 16 when former Slipknot frontman Anders Colsefni co-headlines Nu Metal Mayhem with ex-Mushroomhead vocalist Waylon Reavis.

A founding member of the band in the mid-1990s who left prior to Slipknot’s rise to international superstardom, Colsefni will perform their debut album Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. in full.

The record has become a prized possession for Slipknot fans due to its limited number of pressings upon release in 1996 and Colsefni has not performed it in more than 25 years.

The Toowoomba leg of the tour, which covers Australia and New Zealand across October, features six acts including New Zealand metal-fusion outfit Kaosis and local band Sang-Froid.

Promoter Joel Thompson, who met Mr Fletcher when Kaosis toured Toowoomba last year, said Colsefni was delighted to dedicate the show to someone who would’ve been at the front of the stage.

“To see a young man radiating positivity despite obvious personal difficulties inspired all of us by humbling our personal needs and insecurities,” Mr Thompson said.

“His obvious zest for music, friendship, and having a good time was infectious and naturally drew you to want to engage with him.

“Anders is dedicating the tour to his fallen brothers Joey Jordison and Paul Grey of Slipknot, so it is fitting that this particular show be dedicated to our fallen brother, Mitch.

“We understand Mitch was a big Slipknot fan and we feel it only appropriate that his star shines with Joeys’ and Pauls’ over Toowoomba on that night.”

Nu Metal Mayhem, co-headlined by Anders Colsefni and Waylon Reavis, will come to Toowoomba’s Irish Club Hotel on October 16. Tickets here.
