Comedian Julia Morris has shared the real reason her marriage ended in a candid interview with Stellar Magazine.

Comedian and television star Julia Morris has opened up about her previously very private divorce.

Morris, 55, is one of Australia’s most enduring talents. She’s a comedian, actor and television presenter and she has quietly carved out a massive career for herself.

She’s currently co-hosting Channel 10’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, but she often pops on television shows like Have You Been Paying Attention and Taskmaster.

Morris has never had a huge career peak, instead she just kept working and making people laugh until she became a household name.

Alongside her growing public profile, interest in her personal life has swelled.

Up until recently her personal life was relatively low-key. She lived in Sydney with her two daughters and husband, fellow comedian Dan Thomas and then, in 2022, it was announced the long-term couple was calling quits.

Morris, in typical celebrity fashion, stayed tight-lipped about the separation, but now she’s dug further into the reasoning behind their shocking split.

The pair were together for sixteen years.

In a candid chat with Stellar Magazine, she said that she now felt “free” after the demise of their long-term relationship.

“I have become an Olympic medallist in running him down. But to be honest, I have been trying to stop doing that because I don’t want to let him into my life at all anymore. I’m free.”

Morris didn’t reveal too many details about why they broke up but did share how she felt things had changed over the years.

“Let’s just say I wasn’t married to the person I thought I was,” Morris said.

The comedian’s candidness comes after she revealed on The Kyle and Jackie O Show that she was no longer interested in sex.

“I think I’ve shut up shop. I think I’m done with roots,” she said.

Naturally, Sandilands was shocked by that answer and asked if she was going to “take care of business” herself.

But Morris said she wasn’t even fussed by masturbation.

“Sometimes I can be bothered, but who can be bothered? Who has the time? I’ve got washing to do,” she joked.

Morris went on to brag about the benefits of single life.

“I don’t think I’ve had an argument in a year. It’s the best of times,” she quipped.

Before explaining that raising a family alongside work and all that other life stuff had gotten in the way of her marriage and made them both “lazy.”

Morris clarified that she wasn’t anti-marriage and said it could be a “wonderful thing.”
