Wagners' hi-tech wharf build a world-first

WAGNERS is on track for a mid-year build completion on its world-first fibre reinforced polymer wharf on the Brisbane River.

WAGNERS is on track for a mid-year build completion on its world-first fibre reinforced polymer wharf on the Brisbane River.

Using 3300 tonnes of steel to complete the sub-structure fabricated at its Toowoomba site, the wharf and jetty components are constructed entirely of Wagners' Composite Fibre Technologies and Earth Friendly Concrete.

Using the new generation materials developed by Wagners, the wharf's expected lifespan is 100 years - about double that of traditionally constructed wharves - due to the non-corrosive nature of the materials.

Wagners CEO Cameron Coleman said it was an exciting project "to showcase the new generation building materials developed here in Toowoomba".

"It's the first structure of its kind to be built out of these new generation materials and showcases to the world the benefits of these products compared to traditional construction materials," he said.

"That's why we're so passionate about it - with these materials, the whole of life cost is very attractive when compared to the traditional materials given the extended design life.

"It would be one of the larger structural steel projects fabricated in Toowoomba."

Mr Coleman said it was a credit to Toowoomba's skills.

"The staff at Wagners' Toowoomba CFT factory and the pre-cast EFC team have done a fantastic job meeting the construction timeline on this project," he said.

"This project is a credit to the tradespeople that live right here in Toowoomba."
