Toowoomba’s Super Rooster back open after running out of chicken due to impacts of ex-TC Alfred on supply chains

Super Rooster is back in action, after supply chain issues forced its early closure on Wednesday after running out of chicken.

UPDATE: Super Rooster confirmed on Thursday morning that chicken was back on the menu.

EARLIER: Toowoomba’s most famous local franchise has become a victim of the supply chain woes across southeast Queensland following Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

Garden City institution Super Rooster announced it would be closing its three stores across Toowoomba early on Wednesday afternoon after running out of chicken.

“Yep, it’s happened … we have run out of chicken!” the restaurant wrote on social media.

“Due to supply issues from the weather, all our stores will be closed this afternoon from 2pm.

“Until then, we are offering a limited menu of burgers, chicken rolls, BC subs, nuggets and, of course, our famous chips.

“We will reopen as normal tomorrow if everything goes according to plan, but we will keep you posted.”

It comes as shoppers deal with empty shelves at supermarkets across Toowoomba, which is likely to last until the end of the week.

Both Coles and Woolworths told News Corp on Tuesday fresh products such as meat, bread, fruit, and vegetables are expected to remain in short supply over the coming days.

With severe flooding in the Lockyer Valley impacting transport to Toowoomba, a Woolworths spokesman said supply has been intermittent but 12 truckloads made it to Toowoomba on Tuesday.

For those chasing the barbecued chicken fix, local rival Crackerjack Chicken said it was fully stocked.

“We arranged to have our weekend chicken delivered a couple of days prior,” new owner Jessie Singh said.

“We’ve been amazed by the community coming to us and supporting us.”
