Grocery stores reveal these products are still in short supply in the aftermath of ex-tropical cyclone Alfred

Ex-tropical cyclone Alfred has caused store closures and left shelves barren with supermarket giants warning customers it will take a while before shelves are restocked. Here are the items that will be be difficult to get your hands on:

Fresh products such as meat, bread, fruit, and vegetables are expected to remain in short supply over the coming days in the wake of ex-tropical cyclone Alfred, according to Australian grocery giants.

The majority of Coles and Woolworths stores have reopened across Queensland and transport trucks are back on the roads in efforts to restock shelves, but getting their stores back to normal may take time.

Due to significant interruptions to suppliers, fresh products could still be hard to find in stores for a few more days, according to Woolworths State Manager Danny Baldwin.

“It will take some time for stores to look their best again, and you may find that certain products aren’t currently available,” he said.

With severe flooding in the Lockyer Valley impacting transport to Toowoomba, a Woolworths spokesperson said supply has been intermittent but 12 truckloads made it to Toowoomba today.

“We have managed to find alternative routes into Toowoomba, however restocking and getting back to normal will understandably take some time,” they said.

Woolworths said over 300 truckloads left their Brisbane distribution centre on Sunday on their way to stores across Queensland and New South Wales, in a statement released on Monday.

“With a number of communities still on flood-watch, we’re continuing to closely monitor conditions and the advice of authorities to ensure the safety of our team and customers,” the statement said.

“We thank customers for their patience and understanding as stock availability per store will be variable and not all their favourite products will be available immediately.“

Similarly Coles said their stock levels vary by store, depending on whether stores have been able to receive deliveries.
