When Isaac Moody first entered the Baker’s Duck following the popular Toowoomba bakery’s grand opening in 2018, he knew the business was a drawcard for the region.
Little did the businessman know he would take ownership of the bakery and brainchild of former owner Jeyan Chamanmah, just four years later.
“Jey dared to believe a regional artisan bakery could be just as great as something you would find in downtown Melbourne,” Mr Moody said.
“Now people from all over Australia come to try the products at this iconic, famous bakery and its reputation has just continued to grow.”
Mr Moody, who purchased the business in May last year and has been quietly working behind the scenes ever since, has also owned wedding venue Gabbinbar Homestead for the past 12 years.
The experienced businessman said while both ventures had slight differences, they were both people-focused and shared the same vision to enhance tourism and culture.
While the new bakery owner said he wanted to preserve the aspects people loved about the business, customers could also expect some exciting changes ahead.
More than $700,000 was invested into the shop’s new kitchen to improve pastry production with climate control enhancements.
Mr Moody said the business was also looking to set up a new space in a location on the fringe of Toowoomba’s CBD in the coming months.
“This really is a Toowoomba success story,” Mr Moody said.
“You used to come and find it was sold out most days, but we want to really honour our customers by trying to keep our shelves stocked.
“The future for Baker’s Duck is to open more outlets because we’ve very much hit capacity here so watch this space because we’ve just about finalised a second Toowoomba location.”
This week the bakery, which currently employs up to 30 staff members, also sold the 100,000th strawberry cheesecake danish with the lucky customer receiving a gift voucher.
While Mr Moody did not confirm the purchase price of the business, according to Mr Chamanmah’s LinkedIn page, he “co-founded and scaled this hospitality venue to a 7 figure exit”.
