It’s the talent deal former Crows chairman Rob Chapman has had in the back of his mind for more than a decade, and he’s finally convinced former Crows captain Rory Sloane to join him on the business field.

Mr Chapman says Sloane’s slight aversion to wearing suits is more than made up for by his leadership acumen and eye for a deal, with Sloane previously investing in fellow former Crow James Podsiadly’s indoor footy centres AFL Max, and alcoholic seltzer company Hard Fizz.

Mr Chapman, along with an extended stint as Crows chair, headed up BankSA as managing director from 2002-2010, and now leads investment and advisory firm Chapman Capital Partners.

He said Sloane, who will be coming on board as a director, was “admired by many, respected by all’’.

“He’s got great communication skills and he’s always had an interest in finance,’’ Mr Chapman said.

“I’ve been talking to him about this day for 10 years.’’

Mr Chapman said Sloane would be helping out with business development and raising capital, with a focus on the entertainment and sports sectors, but not confined to that.

“He has great connections in Victoria and beyond as well as Adelaide, so he’ll join me on those exercises,’’ Mr Chapman said.

“We do a lot of work around leadership, teamwork and strategy, so he’ll play a role in that as well.’’

Sloane has also picked up a gig on radio, rotating into 3AW’s AFL radio coverage, as well as landing a new role on Nine’s Sunday Footy Show.

Sloane said on social media he was lucky to be able to combine his love of sport and media through these roles, and was looking forward to getting into the investment side of things with his former chairman’s team.

“Creativity has been a big part of my journey, leading me to start Face Footys and co-own AFL Max and Hard Fizz,’’ he said.

Sloane retired as an AFL player last year after 255 games with the Crows.

Chapman Capital Partners also recently appointed former Australian Grand Prix Corporation chief executive and Sports Rights Management founder Judith Griggs as a director.

Mr Chapman is also a director of Adelaide Airport, Coopers Brewery and AFL Max.
