An inner-city Toowoomba suburb will be getting a new 24/7 gym, after proposed plans were approved by the council last week.
Applicant G and K Lawson Constructions Pty Ltd was given the green light to turn an old industrial shed on Stephen St in South Toowoomba into a new all-hours gym and workout centre.
The new gym will have various types of fitness equipment and machines, and classes will also be run on a mezzanine level.
Based on the designs submitted to the council, it appears the building will be occupied by the Cave Gym, which is currently based on Victoria St.
“The ground floor of the building will be modified internally to make provision for a foyer, reception, office, staffroom, consult rooms, male and female amenities, a creche, group fitness room, ancillary retail area, and cross fit court,” the planning report said.
“The upper floor will include the internal modification and extension of the existing mezzanine floor to provide a machine floor and training room.”
Toowoomba Regional Council planning officer Shokhida Safarova recommended the DA be approved, attaching more than 60 conditions for applicants to follow.
