Time to shine in Hublot’s Big Bang watch

It’s makers declare this Hublot timepiece is ‘more than a watch, it’s a state of mind’. Well, it certainly isn’t subtle.

WHAT IS IT? A watch that costs over a quarter of a million bucks.

THAT’S CRAZY! YOU COULD PUT A DEPOSIT ON A ONE-BEDROOM FLAT IN OUTER SYDNEY FOR THAT SORT OF MONEY. Yes. But according to Hublot, a Swiss watchmaker owned by the luxe-monger LVMH Group, this is “more than a watch, it’s a state of mind”.

DELUSION IS ALSO A STATE OF MIND, YOU KNOW. BUT DO GO ON. It’s crafted from “King Gold” – a gold/platinum alloy – and set with 942 gemstones, including rubies, various sapphires (pink, blue, yellow and orange ones), topaz, tsavorites and amethysts.

IT’S NOT EXACTLY SUBTLE, IS IT? True, even DJT would consider it a little OTT. But it’s a fine piece of craftsmanship, too. The internal mechanism, which comprises 354 intricate components, can be glimpsed through the face. This is the sort of thing watch people get really excited about.

VERDICT: It’s the perfect accessory for the man who has everything! Except perhaps a mortgage and kids.
