TCL X955 MAX Premium QD-Mini LED TV: Road Test

It’s the largest TV you can buy in Australia, with a screen almost three metres wide. Price: a cool 30 grand.

Nice: and if you live in a house like this, you can probably afford a TV like this

WHAT IS IT? The biggest telly you can buy. The screen is 115 inches (or 2.92m in the new money) when measured diagonally!

ISN’T MEASURING IT DIAGONALLY CHEATING? It’s standard practice with TVs. Anyway, it’s not just big but clever too. It’s the world’s first QD-Mini LED TV to have 20,000+ Local Dimming Zones. And it offers 5000 Nits of peak brightness!

WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN? I have no idea, frankly. But imagine watching rugby league on it – whenever there’s a
close-up on a player, his head will appear 2m wide. That’s double life size! You can’t put a price on that sort of luxury.

YOU CAN, ACTUALLY. IT’S 30 GRAND. I know, it’s insanely expensive, but that won’t halt the never-ending arms race of giant goggleboxes. For years we’ve all been thinking, “We need a bigger telly.” Now it’s got to the stage where we’re starting to think, “We‘re gonna need a bigger room...”

VERDICT: It’s the last word in one-upmanship. At least until Hisense releases its 116-inch TriChroma LED TV – beating this one by a single inch – later this year.
