WHAT IS IT? It’s the future, people! What we have here is the “world’s first multi-tasking household robot”.

GO ON... It navigates around your home using lidar (which is like radar, but using lasers) and it’s a modular platform – the base unit is a robot vacuum but you can add all sorts of SwitchBot accessories.

SUCH AS? A video camera to turn it into a roving surveillance bot, an air purifier, a fan, a mini fridge for your drinks, a tabletop for ferrying loads up to 8kg, and a submachine gun for exterminating every last human.

WHAT? Oops, that last one was just a software glitch – try a reboot. Anyway, you control all these functions with the SwitchBot app, or voice commands via a virtual assistant. This thing’s at your beck and call 24/7!

IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING FROM THE JETSONS. I’ll say. Full disclosure: it was unveiled at the recent CES tech show in Las Vegas and won’t be released until May, so it hasn’t undergone the usual rigorous trials for Road Test (insert winking emoji), but it could be a very useful thing for seniors. Or for really lazy bastards.
