McLaren P1 Lego Technic: Road Test: ‘The instruction book is like War and Pieces’
You can have this McLaren P1, one of the world’s most lauded hypercars, for just $699.99. But there’s a catch …
WHY ARE YOU CRYING? So many reasons. First, someone gave me a McLaren P1, one of the most hyped hybrid hypercars of all time and one I’ve never been allowed to drive. Second, this is a Lego car, so I still can’t drive it. And third, I’ve never been beaten by Lego before but this is something called “Technic” Lego, which means it’s for grown-ups (it actually says “18+” on the box) with whole years of spare time.
HOW HARD CAN IT BE? YOU’RE A PARENT, YOU’VE GOT LEGO RUNS ON THE BOARD. Not only does it have a whopping 3893 pieces, it involves constructing a seven-speed gearbox with two shifter drums, working suspension, a V8 piston engine, an adjustable rear wing and opening dihedral doors, whatever they are. It’s a 1:8 scale model, so the finished car, which I should see in about 2035, will be 59cm long, 25cm wide and 14cm high.
I’M IMAGINING THE INSTRUCTION BOOK MUST BE QUITE THICK? Honestly, it’s like War and Pieces.
