A serious bit of hardware: the Imalent MS18

WHAT IS IT? A new milestone in the technological arms race of modern LED torches. This thing has an output of 100,000 lumens!

TRANSLATION PLEASE. It’s like a miniature sun in the palm of your hand. A few years ago, a 1000-lumen torch would be considered a weapon. The MS18 is 100 times brighter; it will illuminate something 1350m away.

THAT’S A SERIOUS BIT OF HARDWARE. Yes. It has two inbuilt fans and a radiator to stop it melting, and it’s powered by a whopping eight 21700-type rechargeable batteries.

HOW BIG IS IT? It’s 26.5cm long (the head of the torch is 13cm across) and weighs a hefty 1.9kg – so it’s perfect for all your burglar-clubbing needs.

WHAT OTHER USES DOES IT HAVE? Search and rescue operations, security and surveillance work, getting moths really excited, signalling to passing spaceships, etc. But really, you want one so you can show off to all the other dads on camping trips, don’t you?
