Watch your back Bezos, TikTok is vying for the e-commerce throne.
Over the past fortnight, TikTok has posted several job listings on LinkedIn that suggest the China-owned app is looking at a US e-commerce expansion, and foraying into the warehouse and logistics business.
As reported by Axios, the LinkedIn listings are looking for candidates to help it develop and grow its “Fulfillment by TikTok Shop” in the US to accommodate sellers using the app.
The fulfillment centres would provide warehousing, customs clearing, delivery and customer service returns. Though, as Axios notes, it's unlikely TikTok would build out its own transportation unit and would instead work with vendors to handle shipping and the like.
So far, job listings include Logistics Solutions Managers based in Los Angeles and Seattle, and a Seattle-based Operation Research Engineer, among other less-senior roles.
“The e-commerce industry has seen tremendous growth in recent years and has become a hotly contested space amongst leading internet companies, and its future growth cannot be underestimated,” the company wrote in a job listing.
“With millions of loyal users globally, we believe TikTok is an ideal platform to deliver a brand new and better e-commerce experience to our users.”
The app previously dipped its toe into live-stream e-commerce with the launch of “TikTok Shop” in Asia, and the UK.
The service allowed creators and companies to add a shop tab to their profile that synced and displayed all the products for sale on their store website, allowing customers to complete transactions without leaving the app.
Last week, the Financial Times reported the social media company is headed for a partnership with TalkShopLive to launch its live shopping platform. Where influencers and brands would be able to sell their products during live streams.
Basically, this is all dreadful news for the girls and the boys who tend to make impulsive and regrettable purchases.
