Happy Friday!

Congratulations we made it to end of 2022.

Almost.

What a year it was for famous, and famous adjacent, people and pop culture.

Note the use of the word "culture" 👆🏼 is doing a lot of heavy lifting.

Speaking of celebrities, it turns out some actors don't do a lot of acting.

Like Chris Pratt here, who makes Andy from Parks & Rec look like a Rhodes Scholar.

Our cricket team finally had a win

Since ditching their successful coach Justin Langer - because he once made a player put down a toastie before taking the pitch - the Australian cricket team have rolled South Africa.

Australia crushed South Africa by an innings and 182 runs at MCG on Thursday, rounding out the dramatic Boxing Day Test.

The Aussies had won just two of the past nine home tests against South Africa.

South Africa were all out for 204, before tea on day four, Steve Smith taking the final wicket.

"Even without first innings star Cameron Green, three wickets from Nathan Lyon after a shoulder scare, a ferocious Mitchell Starc bowling rockets with an injured finger needing need six weeks to repair, two more scalps to hometown hero Scott Boland and two calamitous run outs helped secure a first home series win against the Proteas for more than 15 years," The Australian reported.

While the finally passing 200 for the first time in eight tests innings, their combined total of 393 at the MCG was 182 short of Australia’s monstrous single effort."

Now it's onto Sydney where changes in the Aussie team will have to happen to account for Cam Green's broken finger and Mitchell Starc's ligament issues. Despite the injury Starc bowled 18 second innings overs with his finger being broken, bruised and bloodied.

Green, David Warner and Alex Carey stole the show.

Carey - a former AFL footballer - scored big time.

Warner won man of the match, but he and his wife, Candice with couple of the year.

Youth crime is out of control in Queensland

And has been for quite some time. Now following the murder of mother of two, Emma Lovell in Brisbane at Christmas, the government is set to refresh some laws.

The Palaszczuk government announced on Thursday a suite of new measures involving youth justice legislation after Lee Lovell – Emma's husband, who died following a violent home invasion involving four minors – called for youth justice laws to be changed.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced 10 new measures with the goal of enhancing community safety via "tougher penalties to address these issues involving youth crime in Queensland," she said.

“And the time for action is now and today we are announcing our most comprehensive response to youth crime in this state.”

These measures include increasing the maximum penalty for stealing a car from 7 years to 10 years’ jail, an amendment to the youth justice act requiring courts to take into account previous bail history and criminal activity when sentencing, and increased penalties for criminals who have boasted about these crimes on social media.

Before the government took action, a petition had already amassed more than 27,000 signatures in support of the changes, called “Emma’s Law”.

Sydney is set to go off, with pride

Sydney's New Year's Eve celebrations are set to be bigger and better this year with fireworks and even a rainbow pride waterfall display.

The world-class firework displays are a global icon staple of New Years Celebration with this year's colourful displays to include rainbow lights over a waterfall.

"The display will highlight a nice moment for world Pride with a multicolour waterfall off first," New Year's Eve fireworks director Fortunato Foti said.

"Then the traditional one towards the end of the show, as well as multicoloured rainbow effects from the bridge and the barge at the same time."

"We also have in excess of 100,000 individual pyrotechnics effects."

Foti said he was looking forward to seeing a "good crowd" come out and enjoy the celebrations especially after Covid and it's restritcions.

Since 2000, Foti International Fireworks have been designing and executing Sydney's New Year's Eve celebrations with Mr Foti the seventh generation fireworks director. His kids will be the eighth.

The NSW Opposition also goes off

Can you tell there is an election in the air?

NSW will go to the polls in March and the opposition are jumping on everything to win votes.

Even fireworks, which will be free if Labor win.

China may start being a happy customer again

Maybe.

"The ball is now in the Chinese government’s court," according to our Trade Minster Don Farrell.

On Thursday, he said it is very likely China will drop the $20 billion in sanctions against Australia after the federal government offered to drop two World Trade Organisation cases against the country.

While China hasn't officially confirmed whether it will consider dropping trade bans and tariffs, Farrell - and the Prime Minister - are confident. With Farrell saying he is "happy to meet at any time, any place" to discuss Australia and China's trade relationship.

"I’ve made it very clear that we’re happy to meet at any time, at any place, and we’ll just see what the response by the Chinese government is to that," Farrell said.

The offer comes ahead of an upcoming meeting between Farrell and his China counterpart Wang Wentao to take place in China in February.

China has so far implemented bans on Australian meat, and harsh tariffs against Australian wine and barley.

"We intend to proceed with those cases before the World Trade Organisation," Mr Farrell said.

"[But] we would prefer to sit down and discuss the issues with the Chinese government and, obviously, if that opportunity arises then we’ll take the opportunity to meet with them and discuss outstanding issues."

India is opening for business

While we're all still processing processed and cured meats, our new trade agreement with India has kicked off.

Australian exporters are set to benefit from two tariff cuts via the new Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement.

The agreement will provide greater access to the Indian market for Australian businesses with one of the tariff cuts to coming into effect on Thursday, while the other activates on New Year's Day.

"Australia and India are natural trading partners – this agreement will unlock the enormous potential in our trading relationship," Trade Minister Senator Don Farrell said.

"ECTA’s entry into force today opens up the world’s largest democracy, with nearly one and a half billion people, to Australian exporters.

It's been a big week on the trade front.

From Thursday the government completely withdrew tariffs for over 85% of Australian exports to zero, including wool, lamb, barley, oats, fresh rock lobsters and cosmetics.

A further 5% of exports will have their tariffs phased down to zero over the next six years.

This includes, macadamia nuts, avocados, berries, seafood, pharmaceuticals, cochlear implants, vitamins, infant formula, breakfast cereals, pasta and sandalwood chips.

This happened...

However, I am weary. What if these two are in cahoots? The power of two of the most divisive and talked about "extremely online" personalities of the past year joining forces?

I mean Andrew Tate isn't this silly to give someone such a walk up start right? Right?

FaceGym is coming soon

Facial workouts are a big thing in beauty.

Meghan Markle swears by them as a plumping, natural alternative to Botox.

“I swear it works," Markle said - when she was still an actor instead of a theatrical Duchess.

“On the days I do it, my cheekbones and jawline are way more sculpted.”

Bella Hadid gets regular facial massages too.

“Lymph drainage helps the body detox which then helps with the crazy inflammation/puffiness I get from my Lyme [disease]”.

The “only one I let touch my face”, according to Hadid, are FaceGym "trainers'.

The work out for your face costs about $130 and is soon to launch at Mecca.

FaceGym is a London-founded skincare brand known for its high-performance, award-winning facial workout moves that provide a unique "facial fitness experience" . It's a rigorous facial massage resulting in sculpted cheekbones and a lifted, more radiant complexion - according to both Markle and the marketing guff.

FaceGym is set to open on January 24 at Mecca's George Street store in Sydney.
