Good morning!

With the Queen's funeral taking place next Monday and her body being transported toward London where she'll lay in state for a few days prior, the British capital is getting busier than David Jones on Boxing Day.

World leaders - including our PM Anthony Albanese - have been told by the Palace they'll have to fly commercial. No private jets and helicopters will be accommodated as the air space cannot cope with this, the biggest event and security risk in the UK's modern history.

All head honchos, including the likes of US President Joe Biden, will be shuttled to and from "official events" via bus. It'll be like a morbid music festival where everyone's dignity should also be checked at the bag drop.

Meanwhile here's what to expect in the general (admin) public:

  • More than 750,000 people are expected to visit Westminster to pay their respects to the Queen
  • Expect to wait in lines stretching almost 10km
  • And do so for about 20 hours as there will be  an "unprecedented security operation to protect" those who wish to shuffle past the Queen's coffin over the coming days.

Overnight there was the first of many mini funerals for the Monarch after her casket was driven more than six hours from Balmoral Castle to Edinburgh.

Prince Harry has also released a lovely tribute to his "Granny".

"I am forever grateful for all of our first meetings - from my earliest childhood memories with you, to meeting you for the first time as my Commander-in-Chief, to the first moment you met my darling wife and hugged your beloved great-grandchildren," Harry said.

Something to look forward to during these sombre times is a potential royal tour by Wills, Kate and the kids early next year after King Charles' coronation.

Here for it if only because we feel like Prince George back in 2014 with all the news right now.

Meanwhile...

Due to our Parliament being on mourning leave this week, the PM has had to admit his election promise of installing a federal integrity body may not happen anytime soon.

During the election campaign Albanese pledged to pass laws this year to create a national integrity commission.

Independent MPs, like Zoe Daniel and David Pocock, are now nervy it'll be rushed and not have the same teeth as the model that was shown in the election brochure.

They feel it is especially important now given what we've learned about the former Prime Minister secretly holding five extra jobs.

Passing the necessary legislation is looking unlikely to happen this year as Parliament will return on Friday, September 23 but only to move a condolence motion for the Queen.

Meaning every MP will be given the opportunity to make a speech about the former Monarch and adding how they too learned something from The Crown, admired her grit and grace, once met someone who met her lady in waiting etc.

(You think this "meh" period right now is boring and tedious... paint drying in a Canberra winter will be more exciting viewing that the House of Representatives and Senate in the coming weeks).

This will continue into the following week as we then have to gear up for the Budget. Which is to be handed down in late October.

For the grace of...

A new report published in New York by Aussie campaigner and advocate Grace Forrest overnight has uncovered some horrific new details about slavery post-Covid.

Global Estimates of Modern Slavery, a collaboration between Walk Free and the UN agencies the International Labour Organization and the International Organization for Migration, is a landmark piece of research - the first since the onset of the pandemic - and shows modern slavery is getting worse.

There are now 50 million people experiencing, and living in, modern slavery. A figure which has jumped by 10 million in the past five years. This includes 28 million people in forced labour and 22m million who have been forced into marriage.

The report offers ways to combat these alarming stats, including stronger measures to combat forced labour like paying close attention to supply chains and raising the legal age of marriage to 18 "without exception".

Sounds like now is a good a time as ever to be conscious consumers while governments get to work. The report suggests shoppers ask questions, ask for information and spend wisely. Transparency is key. Modern slavery thrives in the dark.

Thawed and thriving

Former Bachelor alum and Home & Away star Sam Frost is expecting her first baby with her fiance, Survivor contestant Jordie Hansen.

The pair shared the news on Instagram with a cute song and requisite ultrasound shot.

The couple got engaged earlier this year after about five months of dating.

They moved into together in Melbourne after Frost quit Home.& Away amid a cloud of anti-vax controversy this year.

This guy...

Ray J - the man only known for co-starring in a sex tape with Kim Kardashian - is back on his annual "remember me?" tour.

Kris Jenner - the world's most ambitious mother/momager - has long been at centre of rumours surrounding the "leak" of the tape which catapulted Kim to infamy then fame then folklore.

Kris, appearing on The Late Late Show with James Corden, denied it. Again. Despite most of us knowing it's the Easter Bunny of plausible deniability.

Old mate wasn't happy with it being brought up again and took to Instagram to vent (for 40 minutes) and show receipts that Jenner was behind the PR of the X-rated film.

Ray J also shared his supposed original sex tape contract which stipulated that both he and Kim would receive more than $500,000.

“There’s no way I could use Kim Kardashian’s name in this contract if she wasn’t a part of it, right?” he said.

“I got 12.5%. Kim got 12.5%. She’s got the same exact contract as I got so when we go to court, guess what? They gotta pull that up because we gotta see that.”

Ray J proceeded to compare the handwriting in the contract to Kim’s handwriting in an attempt to clear his name.

He also claimed that fingerprints on the contract matched Kim’s and that Kris was involved - even choosing her favourite of the clips to be released.

“She watched and said ‘We’re gonna go with the first one 'cause it’s better, it gives my daughter a better look’,” he alleged.

You can watch his latest work here. You'll recognise the camera work from his 2007 project.
