Good morning!

Technically today is that final day of the official mourning period and there's lots to know.

Your social media is probably dripping in royals stuff, so here's the skinny.

The Queen died

Here's what she did during her 96 years, 70 of which were spent as CEO of the British Monarchy and Australia's head of state.

We have a new symbolic leader, his name is King Charles III.

He was "proclaimed" and "affirmed" in the UK and Australia at the weekend.

Here's the new line of Succession

(The British royal one, not the TV show, more on that tomorrow as we gear up for the Emmys)

Top of the pops is The Sovereign - the artist formerly known as "Prince Charles"  - is now King Charles.

His bust will start appearing on our currency in 2023. Camilla, his wife, will be crowned Queen's Consort at his coronation. Meaning she'll be like a queen but not The Queen, you know? All the gear, all the ideas, just no real power. Her JD is to support the King.

For the rest, this is the peaking order:

1. Prince William is now The Prince of Wales

2. Prince George of Wales

3. Princess Charlotte of Wales

4. Prince Louis of Wales

5. The Duke of Sussex (Harry is back)

6. Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor (Harry and Meghan's son)

7. Miss Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor (Harry and Meghan's daughter who was born in the US)

8. The Duke of York (Prince Andrew 👀)

9. Princess Beatrice, who is also known officially as "Mrs Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi"

10. Miss Sienna Mapelli Mozzi (Beatrice's daughter)

Prince William, as the new Prince of Wales, released this touching tribute.

He also reportedly invited Harry and Meghan to a "walkabout" to observe the floral tributes and thank well wishers. It broke the internet to have the squad once known as "the new Fab Four" reunited since Harry and Meg quit and moved offshore.

Catherine will now become the next Princess of Wales, the title which was held by her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.

The Queen's coffin is now en route to London, her final resting place - next to her husband, mum and dad - after leaving Balmoral Castle overnight.

She is being escorted on her final journey by her daughter, the Princess Royal Princess Anne.

A mourner left a marmalade sandwich outside the gates of Balmoral “for the Queen’s journey” as the hearse left the Royal Palace in Scotland on Sunday night for a six hour journey to Edinburgh.

Nestled among  the many cards and flowers at the Gates was the sandwich, in a plastic bag, nodding to her fun skit at her Platinum Jubilee party at the Palace with Paddington Bear.

An accompanying note said: “A marmalade sandwich for your journey ma’am.”

In her downtime the Queen enjoyed the company of animals (more than humans) and at the time of her death she had four dogs. Two corgis - Sandy and Muick - and an elderly dorgi (a dachshund-corgi) called Candy and a champion cocker spaniel named Wolferton Splash, nicknamed "Lissy" according to BuzzFeed.

Sandy and Muick were gifted to her last year after Prince Phillip died by Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah, Duchess of York. They'll go live with them it's been reported (they still live together...it's complicated).

No word yet who will adopt the other two.

Her funeral will be held next Monday, September 19 starting at about 8pm AEST.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, his partner Jodie Haydon and the Governor-General David Hurley will head off to London on Thursday.

The PM announced we'll cop a public holiday next Thursday, September 22.

Get your diaries out

So many things are being moved about, not to mention your medical procedures and long held appointments, due to how Australia will mark the Queen's death.

Doctor are none too pleased with the public holiday.

Due to her funeral being held next Monday, the AFL's night of nights, the Brownlow Medal count, will now be held in Melbourne on Sunday, September 18.

The Brownlow - also known as the "Gownlow" for its fabulous fashions - was also moved back in 1997 so as not to clash with the funeral service of Princess Diana.

In other news

As we grapple with a skills crisis and a need for more people to call Australia home, a "golden ticket" visa scheme that costs us about $1bn a year may be cut.

The issue was raised after investigations by The Australian - the Willy Wonka to our Veruca Salt - raised concerns the system gave criminals a way of accessing Australian citizenship without proper vetting and checks.

The deep dive found more than 7000 Chinese citizens have been granted "the $5m Significant Investor Visas" and not a single applicant in the past 10 years has been rejected under something called "the character test" which is designed to help stop criminals or those with "suspiciously obtained wealth" getting comfy here.

On Sunday, Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil said the significant investor visa scheme was “a really big problem” in the immigration system and hinted it'll probably be put in the bin.

“I think most Australians would be pretty offended by the idea that we’ve got a visa category here where effectively you can buy your way into the country,” O’Neil said.

Ariel gets more than legs in The Little Mermaid reboot

The live action remake of the problematic and terrifying Disney 1989 'toon is (almost) here.

Halle Bailey will be starring as Ariel. Melissa McCarthy will be portraying Ursula and Awkwafina will be voicing old mate Scuttle the seagull. No word yet on who'll play to two most under rated cinematic creations - Flounder and Sebastian.

A first look was dropped at the weekend.

Forget cultural critics, the woman with the highest of standards, Nicki Minaj, approved.

Speaking of Danish fairytales...

In a sad coincidence, this past weekend was supposed to be a celebration for Denmark's Monarch, Queen Margrethe II, and her 50 year reign in the home of hygge.

The Danish sovereign, who is Princess Mary's mother-in-law, announced she was adjusting a number of her festivities on September 10 and 11 in respect of Queen Elizabeth II, who was her third cousin.

"In light of the sad news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II a number of adjustments will be made to the planned weekend marking the Queen's 50th Government Anniversary," a statement from the Danish royal family's official Instagram account read.

The spritely Danish Queen, who is 82, rules in a more "hands on" approach to the British model.

She has long been involved in the theatre industry, regularly designing scenes and costumes for ballets and theatre pieces around the country.

Margrethe also paints and embroiders for personal artistic expression - some of her favourite hobbies - and her pieces have been on display in several exhibitions.

A special ballet was staged for her in Copenhagen attended by her fam (including "Our Mary") and other heads of Nordic States.

A Wolf in Kardashian's klothing

Kylie Jenner had a son about seven months ago and called him Wolf.

Then she didn't, retracting the noun via Instagram Stories. Bur it turns out you can't just Michael "I declare bankruptcy" Scott a name.

Jenner, appearing on The Late Late Show with James Corden, said his name is still technically and legally Wolf but she is "definitively" going to change it.

"We haven't officially legally changed the name," Jenner explained. "His name is still Wolf. His passport's Wolf, but that isn't gonna be his name. We're just waiting."

Corden pressed. Kylie dodged.

Her mum and manager, Kris Jenner was there too and helped by making some jokes about the family calling the baby "Andy" and Kylie not legally changing the name until he's 21.

Eventually, a few other actual bits of information emerged though.

She has narrowed it down to a few names, he isn't called Wolf at home and the new name won't be an animal.

It's scarf season again

As the Venice Film Festival wrapped up with Cate Blanchett drinking wine out of a cup, the Toronto Film Festival kicked off in Canada.

Musician and now, I guess, film maker, Taylor Swift, held court over the weekend hosting a screening of the All Too Well video clip (that is being touted as a "short film") and chatted about the epic soundtrack.

If you thought you were fine, you won't be fine at all to learn the scarf - that reminds us innocence and smells like a former lover - might not be a pashmina that was once reportedly left at Maggie Gyllenhaal's house and then allegedly being held hostage in Jake Gyllenhaal's drawer.

It's a metaphor.

New York Fashion Week is back and super

Nature is well and truly healing from Covid when fashion shows are back and Kim Kardashian is back in the front row instead of on the runway.

The burgeoning venture capitalist...

(investment is her new side hustle) let the full time models do the walking at the Fendi show.

Legitimate supermodel Linda Evangelista returned to the catwalk for the first time in 15 years and the first time since a botched CoolScultping procedure that left her "disfigured".

Read more about that here.

She closed the show for Fendi which was staged to mark the 25th anniversary of the house's famous "Baguette" handbag, named after the loaf of bread and the way it, too, should be carried under the arm of the "discerning buyer".

A bag that was made famous - well, more famous to plebs like me - by Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie in Sex and The City.

The OG unofficial ambassador, SJP, was there too, watching on as Evangelista closed the show.
