Gucci meets The North Face with a very modern twist
Gucci’s newest collaboration with The North Face thrusts the famed Pokémon Go app back into the spotlight, with a fashion take.
The worlds of high fashion and video game culture have become more and more intertwined in recent years. A community of streetwear buffs spent most of 2020s lockdown period making steezy outfits on Animal Crossing, while Louis Vuitton has designed in-game outfits for League of Legends characters.
As such, the launch of Gucci‘s much-anticipated collaboration with outdoors brand The North Face has also come with a gaming-led twist: allowing fans of both of the brands to access the collection in a way that pays homage to the collaboration’s adventurous spirit. The game of choice? Niantic’s Augmented reality mobile game, Pokémon Go!
Pokemon Go! still boasts a healthy community of players that can occasionally be seen gathering around random street corners in the hope of capturing their favourite collectable Pokémon. And while the game doesn’t have quite the mainstream player base it enjoyed a few years back, it still remains one of the most beloved mobile games in existence today.
Being a game that’s all about getting outside and spending more time walking about in the great outdoors, it also makes a perfect home for the virtual launch of the collection, and should you still be in to the game, you can also get involved (and get your flex on at the same time).
For a limited time surrounding the collection‘s launch this week, Pokémon Go! players can visit a number of Gucci’s real-world stores for the chance to cop three items from the collection for their virtual Pokemon trainers to rock, including a printed T-shirt, a bucket hat, and a backpack. As part of the roll out, Gucci will also be launching a pair of its renowned Gucci Pin experiential pop up stores in both Sydney and Melbourne, where fans of the brand can undergo a number of sensory experiences celebrating the spirit of exploration and nature.
Select Gucci PokéStops in Europe, Middle East, Africa, North America, Latin America, Asia, and Australia will also make the collection available, including Gucci‘s Sydney and Melbourne stores. See the locations of the Gucci x The North Face Pins below:
