Louis Vuitton’s store-on-wheels the latest luxury lockdown solution
One barely need leave the house when a mobile store can come to you
Solving the conundrum of what to do when one needs to get a spot of Christmas shopping done but doesn’t want to deal with the last-minute crowds, Louis Vuitton has created a mobile store: a caravan-like mini boutique that will arrive on a customer’s doorstep — or rather, in their driveway — should they so wish.
Operating in the U.S. East Coast’s Tri-state area (that’s New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut), the six-metre-long ‘store’ has quilted walls, glass sides and is carpeted, and a screen inside plays rolling footage of the house’s spring 2021 womenswear show, according to American Vogue.
The truck is fitted out to hold ready-to-wear and accessories, and for repeat clientele will be stocked with pieces according to their taste and in their sizing. Should they still need to try something on, there are blinds that close and staff see themselves out.
But the bona fide boutique experience is still there — purchases are packaged up as they would be in a bricks-and-mortar store, ready to be toted the short distance inside.
With the mobile store, the luxury fashion house has met the curveball that is 2020 with its usual innovative approach, to much success. According to Vogue, “editors in the Hamptons report regular sightings of the LV van.” Here’s hoping an on-wheels iteration surfaces in Australia soon — having a Louis Vuitton van double-parked out the front is certainly one complaint from the neighbours we’re willing to bear.
