Welcome to the Trading Day blog for Monday, May 12. The ASX 200 closed flat at 8,233.5 points on Monday, as declining health care stocks slightly offset strong energy gains. Trade talks between the US and China started on a 'positive' note.

On Wall Street on Friday, the S&P 500 closed 0.1 per cent lower, the technology-focused Nasdaq Composite Index finished flat and the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.3 per cent.

Cryptocurrency leader bitcoin is back above six figures, currently trading above $US104,000.

The Aussie dollar is trading around US64.31c.
