A controversial business run by reality TV influencer and former Love Island contestant Teddy Briggs has collapsed amid a flood of customer complaints and legal battles.

His company, EcomConnect, built online stores for clients to sell and ship products.

Under a “dropshipping” model, the company’s clients were promised e-commerce platforms that would enable products to be sourced from manufacturers and wholesalers, and then shipped directly to customers.

However earlier this year, dozens of disgruntled customers emerged, claiming the business over-promised and under-delivered, with sub-standard websites that failed to generate the promised revenue.

On Monday, Adelaide-based liquidators from Oracle Insolvency Services were appointed to wind up EcomConnect, which they estimate, owes customers, suppliers, the Australian Taxation Office and other creditors “several hundred thousand dollars”.

Oracle Insolvency Services partner Yulia Petrenko said five customers had lodged individual court actions against the company in Queensland and Victoria, seeking compensation of $60,000 for what they claim were products that under-delivered on EcomConnect’s promises.

“We are also aware of media reports detailing dozens of other customers who are unsatisfied with EcomConnect,” Ms Petrenko said.

“As the appointed liquidator of this company I am keen to determine the full list of creditors. I am asking anyone who has been affected to contact Oracle Insolvency Services.

“Our priority is to work through how much money is owed, what went wrong and whether the company has any assets which may be sold to pay creditors.”

Ms Petrenko said Briggs - EcomConnect’s only employee - had so far complied with all requests for company records and documentation.

“Oracle Insolvency Services is committed to doing all that we can to help those affected by the collapse of this company.”

Briggs, who grew up in Adelaide, moved to the Gold Coast after his appearance on the first season of Love Island in 2018. Last month he appeared with friend Harry Jowsey on The Amazing Race: Celebrity Edition.

His reality TV appearances have helped him to amass a large social media following. He has 262,000 Instagram followers.

When Briggs was confronted by A Current Affair in August over his questionable business dealings, he told reports to “f--- off, man”.
