Luxury properties in Queenstown, New Zealand, are in demand from Australians, particularly if they have a proven track record of producing high income returns from holidaying tourists.

Luxury Real Estate New Zealand director Nick Horton says many lakefront and alpine-style houses and apartments in the popular South Island destination sell as holiday homes, often with furniture and artwork included.

“With uncertainty around building costs matched with people’s busy lives, the value of not having to do anything but enjoy seasonal holidays for family and friends and enjoy passive incomes which cover costs and finance has become desirable,” Mr Horton told Mansion.

Australians are among few world citizens who can actually buy residential real estate in New Zealand, following bans on Americans and Chinese mainlanders from purchasing by the former Ardern government.
