Born in China, to Russian parents, Mr Triguboff who was just named Australia’s sixth richest person on The List - Australia’s Richest 250 — with a fortune of $20.81bn, said he would “definitely” bestow more than $200,000 towards the plight of the Ukrainian refugees.
“I will definitely give more, this is madness,” Mr Triguboff said more than one month into the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“The synagogue is wanting to help — I will talk to them we will decide and they will organise (the donation),” Mr Triguboff told The Weekend Australian.
Mr Triguboff said he would be selective in bestowing the donations because it was difficult to decide where he could derive the most benefit for the Ukrainian refugees.
Mr Triguboff, the founder and managing director of Meriton Apartments, has also bestowed hundreds of thousands of dollars helping educate Bedouin people in the Middle East.
Mr Triguboff’s Meriton Apartments is presently building 3000 apartments in NSW and Queensland, particularly Surfers Paradise as well as constructing two serviced apartment buildings in Canberra and Melbourne.
He said most of his relatives are now based in Israel rather than Russia.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian-born multi-millionaire the Sydney-based Leon Kamenev has also pledged hundreds of thousands of dollars towards the support of the millions of refugees fleeting his former homeland.
Mr Kamenev, who is worth $542m and listed as Australia’s 235th wealthiest person on The List - Australia’s Richest 250, said he was very passionate and concerned about the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“What is happening in Ukraine is horrible. The number of refugees fleeting Ukraine will probably be the size of Sydney’s population,” said Mr Kamenev.
He was born in the Ukrainian township of Vinnytsia near Kyiv in 1958.
