Twist in accused killer’s tell-all deal as prison authorities crack down on his phone calls
Prison authorities are monitoring all calls for a police officer alleged to have murdered two men, following revelations he is trying to sell his interview to the media, sources say.
Accused killer cop Beau Lamarre-Condon’s interactions with the outside world are being closely monitored following revelations he is trying to sell a tell-all media interview from his prison cell.
The sacked NSW Police officer has been locked away in Sydney’s Long Bay Jail for more than 16 months after being accused of shooting dead Ten presenter Jesse Baird, 26, and his Qantas flight attendant partner, Luke Davies, 29, in inner-eastern Sydney, in February 2024.
The Daily Telegraph last week revealed Lamarre-Condon had been using his time behind bars to try to negotiate a tell-all deal that would include an exclusive interview with his mother and details about his upcoming court case.
The 29-year-old was reportedly using an intermediary to handle the negotiations with a number of media outlets, with NSW Police well aware of phone call discussions from prison about the potential deals.
As part of the offer, Lamarre-Condon has allegedly agreed to participate.
Prison sources told The Australian all of Lamarre-Condon’s phone calls were now closely monitored to prevent him unscrupulously cashing in on his murder case while still on remand.
There is no suggestion there has been any wrongdoing by Lamarre-Condon’s mother, nor that his attempts to sell his story have broken any laws.
The former constable, who is facing two counts of murder, and one charge of breaking and entering with intent to commit an indictable offence, is yet to enter a plea. Police allege he used his police-issued Glock to kill Mr Baird and Mr Davies inside Mr Baird’s terrace house in inner-city Paddington last February before stuffing their bodies into surfboard bags.
He’s accused of using a white Toyota van to transport the men’s bodies to a farm at Bungonia, outside Goulburn, where he allegedly buried them in a shallow grave.
Mr Baird worked as a red-carpet reporter for Studio 10 until late 2023 and had been dating Mr Davies for a significant period at the time they were killed.
The couple were last seen by friends at a Mardi Gras party at the Beresford Hotel in Sydney’s Surry Hills the night before the alleged double murder took place on February 19, 2024. Police claim the killing was premeditated, after a months-long campaign of predatory behaviour and an “escalating process” of harassment by Lamarre-Condon against Mr Baird, and that Mr Davies was “collateral damage” because he was at Mr Baird’s home.
Before joining the police force, Lamarre-Condon was a celebrity blogger, with his social media accounts showcasing selfies with celebrities including Selena Gomez, Harry Styles and Miley Cyrus, while a gossip website he ran claimed to feature interviews with high-profile celebrities, including Ben Stiller, Russell Crowe and Chris Hemsworth.
