One of Seven’s most successful off-screen stars, Michael Pell – the executive producer of breakfast TV ratings juggernaut Sunrise for the past 11 years – will leave next month, having been appointed to a new content sourcing role for the network, based in Los Angeles.

The appointment, first reported in The Australian’s Media Diary on Monday, was confirmed by Seven’s chief executive officer James Warburton on Wednesday.

“His new role represents a great opportunity for Seven and for Michael himself, adding a valuable new resource in our content development area,” Mr Warburton said in a statement.

It’s understood Pell will source new programming out of the US for the network, both in terms of concepts that can be adapted for the Australian market, and finished productions.

Pell’s new title will be senior vice-president, entertainment content, North America.
