Barefoot Investor Scott Pape in new Foxtel series
Scott Pape, best known to the public as the Barefoot Investor, will star in a new four-part Foxtel series.
Scott Pape, best known to the public as The Barefoot Investor, will star in a new four-part documentary series on pay-television platform Foxtel early next year.
The announcement of the new TV show, Money School, comes a few days after Mr Pape announced on his website that he was shutting down his subscription-based investment newsletter, Barefoot Blueprint, next year “to do non-profit work.”
Foxtel and Screen Australia said in a joint statement that the series would track the former investment adviser and top-selling author as he launched a so-called “financial revolution” to change the nation, starting with school children.
Pape created a new money education program for primary and secondary schools, based on his best-selling books, which he hopes to eventually roll out to every school in Australia, starting with a number of pilot schools this year.
“My goal is that by teaching the kids, we help their parents too. And when we help parents, we can change the nation,” he said.
Pape said kids spend around 2300 days at school, but not “one of those days is dedicated to teaching them essential money skills”.
“Debt is tearing families and communities apart – a quarter of the nation can’t repay their credit cards, and a million homeowners are under stress. It’s clear that money education needs to be better.”
The Barefoot Money Movement has been popular since its launch last month, with 8991 principals and teachers supporting the initiative, and more than 2000 schools applying to be part of the program, according to Foxtel and Screen Australia.
Money School is being produced by Essential Media exclusively for Foxtel, with “principal production investment” from government-funded Screen Australia. It will premiere on Foxtel’s Lifestyle channel early next year.
Pape’s first book, The Barefoot Investor - The Only Money Guide You’ll Ever Need, has sold 1.6 million copies and is the top-selling non-fiction book of the past 20 years in Australia. His other book, The Barefoot Investor for Families, has also proved popular since its release last year in September.
