Superstar Sam Kerr could make her Matildas return during a pair of friendlies against Argentina later this year.

Football Australia on Thursday announced that the Matildas would take on Argentina in Melbourne on May 30 and Canberra on June 2.

The fixtures now shape as key in the side’s preparation for next year’s AFC Women’s Asian Cup.

The Australians have sorely missed the star striker during a disastrous showing in the SheBelieves Cup, when they failed to advance beyond the group stage, and the Olympics.

But Kerr could now return to the green and gold against Argentina with her return to the pitch via Chelsea believed to be imminent.

Earlier this week, Kerr was ruled out of making her international return against South Korea next month.

She remains out following knee surgery and her club side Chelsea nixed any chance of her turning out in the pair of friendlies in April.

The star striker has not played since tearing her ACL during a Chelsea training camp in January last year.

It could also be the first game for the Matildas’ new permanent head coach as the national side searches for a permanent replacement for Tony Gustavsson.

Tom Sermanni took the reins on an interim basis in September last year and Football Australia has said numerous times that it wants to select the right permanent coach ahead of the Asian Cup.
