Western Sydney businesses allegedly ravaged by mother and son crime duo
A mother has been accused of “using” her teenage son and his friend to break into almost 40 businesses in one capital city.
A mother and son crime duo have allegedly ravaged businesses across Western Sydney in a weeks-long crime spree.
The 42-year-old woman is accused of “using” her 18-year-old son and his same-aged friend to break in to almost 40 businesses, including cafes, takeaways stores, supermarkets and barber shops, between May 13 and June 4.
Police allege the mother “used” the young men to “assist in the break-ins”.
“Hammers were allegedly used to smash windows and doors by men who then stole goods, cash and personal items,” police said.
“Total damage to the businesses is estimated to be up to $150,000.”
One of the teens was allegedly caught red-handed a week after investigations kicked off, found allegedly smashing the glass window of a Winmalee supermarket “multiple times” on Whitecross Rd just after 5am on Wednesday.
He was charged with aggravated dwelling etc in company steal less than $60,000 and breach of bail.
The 42-year-old woman was arrested in a car nearby and was charged with 38 counts of aggravated dwelling etc in company steal less than $60,000, seven counts of drive licence suspended, and one count of possess prohibited drug.
Both were denied bail to face Penrith Local Court on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the second teenager was arrested at a home on Sorenson Crescent at Blackett about 10am.
He was charged with six counts of aggravated dwelling etc in company steal less than $60,000.
He was granted conditional bail to face Penrith Local Court on July 16.
A Suzuki Swift, which police will allege was the car being used in all operations, has been seized and taken for further examination.
Police carried out a search warrant at a unit on Sorenson Crescent, with several items believed to be linked to the investigation seized.
