Oscars 2025 live updates: Anora wins Best Picture
Sean Baker's stripper tragicomedy, the scrappy Palme d'Or winner at the Cannes Film Festival, has waltzed off with Best Picture, winning a total of five awards tonight — Best Director, Best Editing, and Best Original Screenplay for Baker, and Best Actress for Mikey Madison.

Baker made history as the first filmmaker to win four prizes for a single film in the ceremony’s 97-year history, as the writer, editor, director, and producer of Anora.
The film, which took home the prestigious Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival last year, beat out The Brutalist, which won three Oscars for Best Actor (Adrien Brody), cinematography and score. A handful of other movies in the category earned two Oscars: Dune: Part Two (visual effects, sound), Emilia Pérez (supporting actress, song) and Wicked (production design, costume design).

Theatre boss lands plum festival role
The festival’s board has that Matthew Lutton, the long-time artistic director and co-CEO of Melbourne’s Malthouse Theatre, will oversee the Adelaide event from 2026 until 2028.
