A major search is under way at a notorious beach on the state’s Mid North Coast for a South Korean man who vanished after entering the water on Thursday afternoon.
Taewoo Kim, 21, was last seen about 1pm on Thursday entering the water at Moonee Beach, north of Coffs Harbour.
About 9.30pm on Friday police were notified that Kim had not returned to his accommodation. They scoured the beach and located some of his possessions.
On Saturday, police commenced a full-scale search of the area with the assistance of the Marine Area Command, the SES, Surf Life Saving and Marine Rescue NSW.
Kim is described as being of Asian appearance, of slim build, about 175 centimetres tall, with black hair and brown eyes.
Moonee Beach is unpatrolled and known by locals to be dangerous.
It has been the site of several drownings including four deaths over the course of a week in December 2018.
The beach is accessible via a remote headland pathway that links to Dammerel Crescent at Emerald Beach.
Anyone with information about Kim’s whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
