Man dies after being pulled unconscious from water at Moonee Beach
By Rachel Clun & Jenny Noyes
A man has died after being pulled unconscious from the water at Moonee Beach near Coffs Harbour on the NSW Mid North Coast, just days after three people drowned at the notorious spot.
Emergency services were called to the beach about 12.25pm on Friday to reports a man was missing in the water.
A short time later witnesses pulled the unconscious man from the surf and commenced CPR until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics, police said.
Four ambulance crews, a helicopter and police attended the scene as paramedics worked to revive the man, but he died at the scene.
Police have identified him as a 60-year-old Swiss national.
Moonee Beach is unpatrolled and known by locals to be dangerous.
On Monday evening, six members of an Indian family from western Sydney got into trouble while swimming there.
Three teenagers were rescued, but two men, Mohammad Ghouseuddin, 45, and Syed Rahath, 35, could not be revived.
Mohammed Abdul Junaid, 27, could not be found, and rescuers spent two days scouring the water before the search was called off about midday on Wednesday.
His body was found about midday on Thursday by the crew of a fishing vessel in the ocean near Point Plomer, about 150 kilometres away.
