By Rachel Clun

The body of a Sydney man who was swept out to sea on Monday evening has been found, about 150 kilometres from where he first went missing.

Mohammed Abdul Junaid was one of a group of six family members who got into trouble in water near Coffs Harbour about 6pm.

Mr Mohammed, 27, and two other men, Mohammad Ghouseuddin, 45, and Syed Rahath, 35, had jumped in the water at Moonee Beach after three teenage relatives were swept away by a strong rip.

The two girls, aged 15 and 17, and a boy, aged 15 were rescued, but the two older men could not be revived.

Rescuers were not able to locate Mr Mohammed, sparking a huge two-day search involving the Westpac and Polair helicopters, as well as local police and marine rescue. The search was called off about midday on Wednesday.

Just after midday on Thursday, the crew of a fishing boat spotted Mr Mohammed's body floating in the ocean near Point Plomer, about two nautical miles north of Port Macquarie and about 150 kilometres from where he disappeared.

Police said a report would be prepared for the coroner.

It's believed the family of Indian nationals had been in Coffs Harbour on holiday from western Sydney, police said.

Moonee Beach, which is unpatrolled, is known by locals to be dangerous.

Police and Surf Live Saving NSW said the triple drowning was a tragic reminder to only swim at patrolled beaches, and always swim between the flags.
