The Woollahra Hotel

13/20

Pub dining$$

There's a tantalising door to Bistro Moncur in the bar at the Woollahra Hotel, behind which cashed-up diners enjoy $40-plus mains. The good news is that the bar food on the less luxurious side of the door is interesting and considerably cheaper: think an entree of fried prawn and dill cakes, followed by pan-fried veal schnitzel with potato salad and anchovy butter, or ocean trout with a radicchio, potato and fennel salad. There's pizza for those who enjoy simpler fare. The bar feels a little sterile, and the tables are either uncomfortably low or awkwardly high, but there's a terrace for warmer nights.
