Plunge 46
Modern Australian$$
Hashem el Masry took the plunge and recently re-booted this cool, open-to-the-street cafe in the heart of Summer Hill, putting in a small herb garden in the rear courtyard and moving his coffee forward with a little help from Hazel de los Reyes of Coffee Alchemy. It was energy well-spent; a caffe latte ($3.30) is velvet on the tongue; all body and all balance; clinging to the sides of a cup as if it's trying to get out. The small cakey things from the kitchen are stunners, or stay for sucuk sausage and baked beans or mezze with lamb koftas and falafel.
