Apsley Arms Hotel
15/20
Modern Australian$$
On spectacular Thunderbolt's Way, beautiful mountainous countryside gives way to high plains sheep and cattle stations. No wonder Walcha has delicious meat, and an Apsley special of the day, a lamb curry, is one of the tastiest we've had, the lamb shining through the curry flavours. The Moroccan lamb burger is served in soft, tahini-spread Turkish bread with hand-cut chips and salad. A regular has soup of the day at the bar, a couple eat in the conservatory while seven hungry Harley riders head for the bistro for local steaks and the highly recommended crumbed/grilled Queensland barra. Local wine by the glass.
