Seelbach champagne cocktail recipe
It might look terrible on paper and can be quite hard to balance, but when you get it just right the Seelbach is rich and complex, and perfect for the whisky drinker who wants to add a little sparkle to their dram. Originating at the Seelbach Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky, this drink was made famous in The Great Gatsby, as fictional characters Tom and Daisy Buchanan enjoy a Seelbach or two to celebrate their wedding.
Ingredients
30ml bourbon
15ml Cointreau
3 dashes Angostura bitters
3 dashes Peychaud's bitters*
30ml sparkling wine to top
lemon peel to garnish* A specialty bitters from New Orleans available at most online bottle shops.
Method
Step 1
Add bourbon, Cointreau and bitters to a mixing glass full of ice, and stir until chilled and diluted.
Step 2
Pour into a chilled champagne saucer, top with sparkling.
Step 3
Garnish with a twist of lemon peel.
