Mama Bear

Modern Australian

This mama’s a little unconventional. Sure, she’s tucked behind a mock white picket fence, but check out her surrealist facade (coffee cups on stilts) and quirky industrial fitout. Some of her breakfast dishes break from the cafe mould: the Asian-inspired scrambled eggs generously studded with sticky pork chunks, fresh hits of coriander, chilli and scallions. At lunchtime, a duo of dinky brioche sliders comes plump with ham hock, tart gribiche sauce and melted gruyere, photogenically topped by a fried quail egg. Sweet (sometimes slow) service, quality Gridlock coffee and a cabinet full of sugary treats should leave you feeling just right.
